Sydney 10 October, 2013 - Dalkia, a subsidiary of Veolia Environnement and Electricité de France, has confirmed its position as leader in delivering more sustainable energy solutions by receiving ISO 14001 certification for environmental management. The award of this international standard concerns environmental management across more than 2,800 energy systems managed by Dalkia in Australia.

ISO 14001 has been the global standard for environmental management since 2004. It sets out a framework for actions required to improve existing business processes to effectively identify, measure, manage and control environmental impacts and hence environmental risks. The ISO 14001 Environmental Management System also establishes the means for improving performance and moving towards environmental sustainability through best practice processes.

The benefits of employing ISO 14001 include the savings in consumption of energy and materials which is aligned with Dalkia’s core business objectives of providing innovative solutions to support the sustainable growth of cities and business. Dalkia is a key player in the control of energy demand, reduction of polluting emissions and greenhouse gases and the development of renewable energies focused on optimizing energy used by city councils, industry and the tertiary sectors.

For Dalkia's clients, it offers a concrete demonstration of the company’s expertise and how it is committed to delivering efficient energy solutions and services aligned with environmentally compatible results.

Stewart A. Wood, President & CEO of Dalkia Pacific

"This certification is the recognition of our commitment to providing more sustainable energy solutions that deliver both performance and environmental benefits to our clients. In a time of climate change and volatile energy prices, our goal is to constantly improve energy performance for clients through the development, construction and operation of greener and more economical energy systems”.

In 2012, Dalkia globally saved 14.4 TWh of energy across the world and 7.5 million metric tons of CO².

NSW Government unveils its preferred plan for the circa $2.5 billion re-development of the Darling Harbour precinct. Dalkia Energy Solutions to provide a central thermal plant, as part of the Precinct Energy Scheme.

11 December 2012
The NSW Government and Infrastructure NSW has selected the Destination Sydney consortium (of which Lend Lease is a key member) on 11 December 2012 as the preferred proponent to develop and deliver the new Sydney International Convention, Exhibition and Entertainment Precinct (SICEEP) in Darling Harbour with a total project value of circa $1 billion.

There is also a new Project Development Agreement that Destination Sydney will enter with Infrastructure NSW, which will involve the development of a hotel complex and The Haymarket site adjacent to SICEEP. This additional part of the precinct will have an end development value of another circa $1.5 billion.

The following is an excerpt from an Infrastructure NSW media release of 11 December 2012:

"Destination Sydney has established a relationship with Dalkia Energy which creates the potential for a centralised thermal plant to be established. It works by centralising the systems for heating and chilling of water to serve several buildings. This meets the water heating and cooling demands of buildings more efficiently - meaning less greenhouse gas emissions, lower costs, better management and maintenance of the systems, and smaller space requirements for the buildings."

Dalkia Energy Solutions is proud to have had the support of Veolia in Australia, and Dalkia Internationally in its work with Destination Sydney to develop their proposal. Over time, there will likely be opportunities for Veolia Environmental Services and Veolia Water to contribute as part of the 1Veolia group effort to solving the environmental challenges of this new and exciting precinct.
